'My Cage' Comic's Contest Winners Include a Cake Baker

NEW YORK Three winners of the "My Cage" comic's fan-art and fan-essay contests have been announced.

"Oddly, all three entries ended up being from Texas," said Ed Power, who writes the 2007-launched King Features Syndicate strip. (Melissa DeJesus draws the manga-influenced comic.)

Chris Holm won the art contest -- the drawing can be seen [url=[link] photobucket. com/albums/o118/mycagecomic/?action=view¤t=MyCageArtContestWinner. jpg]Here[/url]-- and Eduardo Soliz won the essay competition.

Soliz wrote, in part, that he likes "My Cage" because "I see my reflection in Norm, I see the silliness of day-to-day office life, but more importantly, I see the relationships, friendships, and love that somehow keep a ship called 'a business' afloat. "

Norman Platypus is the lead character in "My Cage."

The third winner -- Stephanie Falleri -- entered the art contest by baking a cake picturing Norman and cupcakes showing the rest of the comic's young-adult-animal cast. "It was outstanding, but it wasn't a drawing, so we named her an honorary-mention winner," Power told E&.

"All three winners," said Power, "will appear in the strip as the prize."
